Winners Workshop 2008
Judy Freeman’s wildly popular idea-packed full-day workshop, sponsored by her publisher Libraries Unlimited, is presented every spring in north, central, and south New Jersey. For more than 20 years,
Judy’s WINNERS! conference has offered innovative and practical
ways to use the best of the year’s children’s books for curricular connections,
thematic tie-ins, resource-based learning, and just plain
fun. It’s a field day for K-6 teachers, school and public librarians,
library aides, reading specialists, curriculum coordinators, administrators,
parents, and other children’s literature-lovers.
JUDY FREEMAN (http://www.JudyReadsBooks.com) is a well-known speaker, consultant, and writer on all aspects of children’s literature, storytelling, booktalking, and school librarianship. She is a visiting lecturer in the School of Information and Library Science at Pratt Institute in New York City, where she teaches courses in children’s literature and storytelling. A former school librarian, she gives conferences, workshops, speeches, and performances throughout the U.S. and the world for teachers, librarians, parents, and children, and is a national seminar presenter for BER (Bureau of Education and Research). Judy’s wildly popular Winners! Conference, held every spring in New Jersey and sponsored by Libraries Unlimited, just celebrated its 22nd anniversary. Judy served as a member of the Newbery Committee to select the Newbery Award book for the year 2000, and was recently elected to the 2008 Sibert Informational Book Award Committee.
Judy Freeman’s long-awaited all-new book Books Kids Will Sit Still For 3: A Read-Aloud Guide (Libraries Unlimited) and its popular companions More Books Kids Will Sit Still For (1995) and Books Kids Will Sit Still For (1990) are indispensable, comprehensive resources for libraries and literature-based classrooms. Judy’s book Hi Ho Librario! Songs, Chants, and Stories to Keep Kids Humming is accompanied by her lively CD full of her favorite fun book-related songs to sing with children (Rock Hill Press, 1997; 610-667-2375; ssocha@rockhillworks.com; www.rockhillworks.com). Judy also writes the new "Wild about Books" children’s book review column for School Library Media Activities Monthly (800-225-5800 ext. 4488; http://www.schoollibrarymedia.com).
